“I think I really did my thing picking these records dawg,” says Columbia, South Carolina producer DeMario Priester, aka Supah Mario, who recently pulled up to NYC’s Good Records and took the Rhythm Roulette challenge.
Digging through the crates blindfolded, the producer behind hits like Young Thug’s “Wyclef Jean” and “Ice Melts” a standout track off Drake’s ‘More Life’ stumbled onto some heat from James Taylor, GangStarr, and some old-school dancehall courtesy of the Dillinger vs. Trinity ‘Clash’ LP. “I told y’all this was gonna be some Jamaican vibes!” he exclaimed after the needle drop. But he ended up skipping the reggae together and finding some ill breaks on the James Taylor and the Original Flying Machine disc, adding some of his own keyboards to complete the beat.

VP Records is proud to announce the premiere of Queen Ifrica’s new video for “Black Woman”. The video premiered on the premier online magazine destination for African-American cultural insight, news, and perspective, EBONY, yesterday August 26th 2018 in celebration of Women’s Equality Day. Featured on her album “Climb”, the lyrically and musically powerful anthem paints the message of black women protecting themselves and uplifting each other.
Filmed in Jamaica and directed by Jason Panton (Raging Fyah “Milk and Honey”, Ikaya “Leave you Alone”), the video features everyday black women of all ages and occupations while Queen Ifrica regally dressed in African garb performs the song against a black backdrop. Familiar faces Emprezz Golding, Kamila Mcdonald and Naomi Cowan are also seen throughout the visual.
The video comes at a time when womanhood has been celebrated more than ever with movements such as #MeToo which bring attention to sexual harassment in the entertainment industry and workplace. On the other spectrum, black women specifically have been glorified more than ever with movies such as “Black Panther” which showcase the all black female cast as strong, intellectual and brave. These advancements are a sign that being a black woman is no longer considered as a crutch but a blessing and the song “Black Woman” only adds to that triumph. The video hopes to bring attention to women equality and empowerment issues globally while simultaneously bringing black women together in a way that’s never been done before.
“My reason for doing ‘Black Woman’, is the mere fact that women today are stepping up and becoming more stronger in themselves. Whenever we see that black women are behind, it is because she is left behind,” said Queen Ifrica on the meaning of the song and video.
She continues, "Women’s Equality Day” is a day to reflect on being a woman and our worth, purpose, and what she is about in this space. It’s a day to remember to acknowledge that we sisters carry a lot and we do it with grace, so we deserve the same recognition as our male counterparts."

He would perform for such artist and events such as The Roots, KRS One, Immortal Technique, Dougie Fresh, Common, Rhymefest, Cypress Hill, Pharoah Monch, Nas, Diddy, Mariah Carey, Taste of Chicago, Lollapolooza, Looptopia, B96 Summer Bash just to name a few. The BRICKHEADZ also won many breakin' competition nationally and internationally. While Shon Roka was being active as a bboy he was working on his craft of being a DJ.
DJing for w/ Nike, Jordan, Under Armour, Adidas, Vans, Uprise (Chicago) Skateshop for numerous in-stores, sporting events, galleries and corporate outings. Also Shon Roka is a resident DJ post Covid in Chicago at McGee's, Tantrum, Imbibe and Harbee's. While being a DJ, he has been teaching music production and the Art of Skateboarding through Maggie Daley's After School Matters. Also known as Gallery 37.
