Behind the Boards: "Time Ticking" Juelz Santana & Dave East feat. Bobby Shmurda & Rowdy Rebel
"The open mic has been proving ground for young performers for decades, regardless of genre. For me it created a space to express myself in one of the most freeing ways, always hoping to grab a new ear or two. This particular acapella is one I've performed locally for a number of years, and now with the upcoming release of this new project I can share with everyone what folks in my backyard have always known." - Stik Figa
Directed by Joshua Browning
Stik Figa is back on January 27th with his new album "Central Standard Time" on Mello Music Group. This is merely the introduction. The new album features fellow rhyme-smiths Elzhi, Homeboy Sandman, Rappin' 4-Tay, Quelle Chris, along with production from Black Milk, Exile, Apollo Brown, !llmind, L'Orange, D/Will, and Grammy Award Winner Nottz. http://tinyurl.com/jqgfd4a
Stik Figa is one of Hip-Hop's best kept secrets. The Topeka, Kansas lyrical craftsman already has classics under his belt having created an entire EP with DC/Brooklyn star Oddisee and a full length cult classic with L'Orange on "The City Under The City" (that also featured Rapsody & Open Mike Eagle).
Bboyworld:
Founded in 1999, Bboyworld was established with the goal of raising the bar for the “BBOY” world while integrating it's distinctiveness into the wider world of popular culture, art & design. In the years since, Bboyworld has evolved to become a platform for many of it's most authoritative voices.
“The elixir is the essence of being able to control your future with elements of both the past and present. I live through my music only to progress towards a better day.”—Aaron Rose
After shedding his former pseudonym of A La $ole, Pro Era member Aaron Rose dropped a number of noteworthy singles and killed every guest feature. But with the release of his new EP, 'Elixir,' the Brooklyn rapper has never sounded more focused or motivated, and it’s only a taste of what’s to come from the young artist.
His tenacity becomes clear as soon as opener “The Root of Sole” hits your ear with its mad-scientist samples and production from J57 (he produced five of the EP’s seven tracks). And then in comes Rose to bring it all together, flexing his breathless flow and dizzying wordplay.
From there, the BK native continues to rip apart the instrumentals, including the jazzier “Break It Down,” featuring Domo Genesis and the more militant “Parkside Ave.” More than just a rapper with incredible chops, Rose also reveals pieces of his personality and background on those same tracks. Like on “Break It Down” when he rhymes, ”’A black man who knows what his worth is, I’m off the circuits/ From this American horror story, we in the circus”
Elsewhere, he eviscerates his critics on standouts “The Art of Sole” and “Swank Corleone,” the latter of which is produced by Latrell James. Rose also gets an opportunity to stunt alongside fellow Pro Era member Dirty Sanchez on “The Shift,” a slapper produced by The Audible Doctor.
Amidst the variety in sounds, the project remains distinctly the work of its host emcee. And he drives that point home when speaking on 'Elixir,' saying succinctly: “I am Aaron Rose and this is my elixir.”
'Elixir' is now available via Coalmine Records through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms, and can be purchased on CD through Fat Beats and UGHH. Limited edition purple/pink vinyl copies will be ready shortly after the new year!

ODDISEE’S ‘THE ICEBERG’ OUT FEBRUARY 24 ON MELLO MUSIC GROUP
LISTEN TO LEAD SINGLE “THINGS” VIA NPR MUSIC: LINK
2017 INTERNATIONAL TOUR ANNOUNCED
The prolific MC, producer and musician Oddisee’s new album ‘The Iceberg’ is a plea for humanity to dig deeper in search of understanding and common ground. His third release in just 12 months, ‘The Iceberg’ is a distillation of stereotypical tropes in hip-hop and beyond, 12 tracks about money, sex, politics, race and religion that appear superficial until his multi-dimensional lyrics unfurl to expose the complexities of individuality and identity: how we see ourselves and how others see us. Deeply soulful, and shot through with jazz, Go-go, gospel, thick r&b and hard beats, the album is a timely, poetic statement. ‘The Iceberg’ is out February 24 on Mello Music Group.
Lead single “Things” acts as a mission statement for the album, a deep dance groove with lightning-quick lyrics about “things” he’s going through. Says Oddisee, “"We all go through the trials & tribulations of life. Why is it we feel the need to individualize our shared experiences? If only we could see our concerns as others do, maybe they wouldn't be so serious."
‘The Iceberg’ was recorded and produced by Oddisee at his own studio in Brooklyn, made with live instrumentation performed by Oddisee and members of his band, Good Compny.
Oddisee has released two studio albums, several EPs mixtapes and instrumental albums, and has over 23 million plays on Spotify. He’s been profiled by NPR, the Washington Post, praised by Pitchfork and Stereogum, performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk, Red Bull Sound Select and at festivals including Glastonbury and Sasquatch. ‘The Iceberg’ follows two releases in 2016, the ‘Alwasta EP’ and the instrumentals album ‘The Odd Tape.’ His 2015 full-length ‘The Good Fight’ was a Top 10 album on the iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap chart and he won the iTunes Music award for Best Hip-Hop Album of 2012.

DJ Shadow ft. Nils Frahm | Bergschrund | Official Video

DJ Shadow has unveiled a new visual for his Nils Frahm-assisted single “Bergschrund.” “Bergschrund” was directed by Matt Devine and stars Matthew Sunderland as an unsuspecting target of otherworldly activity. The track comes from DJ Shadow’s latest record, ‘The Mountain Will Fall,’ which was released earlier this year on Mass Appeal Records.
Says director Matt Devine: "To me the track has a really cinematic and also science fiction tone to it. I wanted to make a film that really worked with this visually but also had a humor to it. It is also my favorite track from the album so I was honored to be asked to make something for it."
Says DJ Shadow: "Nils Frahm is an insanely smart composer. He created a sinewy, gated vintage synth line which I then expanded upon, hopefully to complimentary effect. Bergschrund is an obscure German word for a particular type of crevasse, or ice cliff, usually found on mountains at very high elevations."
