Sa-Roc | Seven | Official Video
Sa-Roc returns this week with the 7th edition of her lyrical domination called Wisdom Wednesdays. Fittingly enough the title of this cut is "Seven". With the seventh letter in the alphabet being G, Sa-Roc proves that she is truly The Goddess MC.

Lyrics:
These bars like sharp edged weapons that leave scars.
Sever through veins and arteries martyr these bleeding hearts.
Part of me skeptical at the thought of a clean start, cuz I grew up playing the dirty dozens in seedy parks.
And ironically now I get exceeding marks in wordplay.
And a new crop of gray hairs on every birthday.
Cuz I stay worried imma snap from the pressure.
Got unprecedented urges to murder mics in the worst way.
And first Sway heard the queen drop a 24, and then y'all finally understood what I was stunting for.
I'm a formidable behemoth for the record, get em shook and disappear from off the grid to become hunting lore.
Honey born from bittersweet beginnings; had to pay the cost.
Them sharks and crocodillos tried to make me prey-Lacoste.
But now I'm making waves with every verbal altercation, ain't nobody trying to get entangled in these famous Jaws.
A language connoisseur, got em savoring my soliloquies.
Mastering the art of every letter like calligraphy.
You can find me posted up wherever hiphop's illest be.
Showing off over the dopest of James Dilla's beats.
They want me to simmer down, think I'm too much Huey P.
But they attacking my opinions cuz the hue in me.
So imma black out on every verse I spit until anybody listening can speak Swahili fluently.
Humans think I'm so damn Gorge like the Olduvai.
Bone structure got em tryna recreate a mold of I.
It's too few originals left in the game that's why I'm trying to leave a long lasting impression on my vocal files.
The locals proud of their hometown hero.
Roc make them step up their bars like old man Ebro.
Bust a Hot97 on the air and have the whole place frozen at 30 below zero.

Ezzy | Goodbye | Official Music Video
Check out the first music video ‘Goodbye’ by Ezzy off of The Land official soundtrack, executive produced by Nas. Directed by Steven Caple Jr., Ezzy takes a stroll down his neighborhood and says goodbye to his life struggles in a “letter to the hood”. Produced by Rafi Gavron, the song’s motivational energy pairs perfectly with Ezzy’s positive message.
"Goodbye is a love letter to the neighborhood and the struggle. It has the classic hip hop vibe with fresh lyrics. Ezzy wrote the perfect song for the film, we wanted that feel-good energy that lifts people's spirits. So to be able to direct the video and collaborate with Ezzy and Rafi, who produced the track in a closet of a hotel, was special. As we share it with the world it becomes an open love letter." -- Director Steven Caple Jr.

About The Land film:
Executive producer Nas presents this vivid inner-city saga set amidst Cleveland’s hip-hop underground. Teenage buddies Cisco (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.), Junior (Moises Arias), Boobie (Ezri Walker), and Patty Cake (Rafi Gavron) shrug off school to practice skateboarding, which they hope will be their ticket to a better life. In the meantime, they steal cars to finance their dream. But when they get mixed up in a drug deal and cross a ruthless crime queen-pin (Linda Emond), they put their friendship—and lives—on the line. Set to a choice hip-hop soundtrack and featuring an impressive ensemble cast that includes The Wire’s Michael K. Williams, Erykah Badu, and rapper Machine Gun Kelly, The Land crackles with the energy and poetry of the streets.

Ugly Heroes | Unforgiven | RedPill • Apollo Brown • Verbal Kent
Detroit's grittiest producer, Apollo Brown, is back with blue collar rhyme writers Red Pill (Detroit) & Verbal Kent (Chicago). The new story lays bare the kind of truth that makes art great. Pill dives into family that left him behind while Verbal digs into forgiving the man who tried to kill him, the ex who tried to kill herself, and the friend who broke in. Director Andy "Orange Cap" Miller adds his own unique vision including a surprise epiphany at the end. Raw, honest, and profound. Ugly Heroes

About the album
Few things are more ugly or heroic than telling the truth. Life is often bleak, brutal, and over all too swiftly. Leaders are corrupt. Job prospects are limited. Cigarettes and shots of gin rarely lead to a peaceful finish. But between the lunacy and squalor, there exists those who make it all worthwhile: family, friends, and ruthlessly honest artists who remind you that you aren’t alone, shedding light on those dark nights of the soul.
As Michigan’s anti-Surgeon General, Red Pill quips: “We may not be the heroes this world needs, we're definitely not the heroes this world wants, but at least we're here.” His partners in Ugly Heroes are Chicago MC Verbal Kent, and Detroit producer Apollo Brown. Their sophomore Mello Music Group release, Everything In Between, offers diamonds of wisdom amidst the existential dumpster fire.
It’s been said that if you go down deep enough, past the personal, you eventually reach the universal. Ugly Heroes embody that axiom, unraveling their own stories, self-doubts, and bouts with depression to arrive at something as profound as it is vulnerable. Apollo Brown warps soul music and bayonet-hard drums, creating a singular form of soul-coughing dirty-sky symphonies. Levitating boom-bap for the 21st Century.
“Have you ever figured what you’d be like in a few years…why don’t you look ahead” A cinematic voice opens up “Today, Right Now,” with these words, doubling as a manifesto for things to come. Just as quickly, a voice retorts, “ah, don’t preach at me…as if you can tell what you’ll be like in a few years.”
The back-and-forth distills the questions at the core of the record: What will my future look like? How can I repair myself? What gives my life meaning? What do we do in a world where the right answers are frequently hidden and the wrong answers are all too obvious?
Red Pill, Verbal Kent, and Apollo Brown refuse to offer simple solutions, but instead created a life-affirming record with a dark undercurrent. Red Pill calls us “rational cattle” one moment, while Verbal half-jokingly insists on the importance of “grabbing the bull by its arms” in the next. They’re artists and brothers and fathers grappling with the impossible: how to extend the good moments indefinitely, how to eradicate the bad ones to protect themselves and the ones they love.
They might harbor the suspicion that the past, present, and future might all be the same, but they understand that acts of heroism are often found in minor gestures. In a frivolous world, Ugly Heroes prove that talent will always reign supreme and honesty can never become obsolete.

Danny Matos | Ota Benga | Music
For up-and-coming New York rapper Danny Matos, 'The Tarmac' is the culmination of hard work, determination, and incredible skill. He’s dropped some serious heat this past year, kicking off with the well received 'Hangar EP' in addition to various loosies. But it’s 'The Tarmac' that pulls it all together, showcasing one of the city’s bright young talents.
At a concise and cohesive ten tracks, this project hits its stride immediately, pulling in listeners with the powerful lead single, “Fought The Devil” and refusing to let go. That’s because Matos and his go-to producers, Rusty Mack and The Red Walrus, put their all into what they create. Where his passionate delivery provides a view into the fire in his belly, the musical duo’s colorful instrumentals display their unique approach, complementing each other perfectly.
That goes for any topic Matos decides to tackle. He deftly takes on difficult subject matter including depression (“Fought The Devil”), heartbreak (“Too Soon”), and society’s view of women and men (the brilliant one-two punch of “Red Carpet Globe (Animus)” and “Stay Together (Anima).” While these topics can seem heavy, there’s also a swagger to Matos and how he views his own abilities. He brags and boasts his way through several cuts, including “Music Thing” and “Dice,” but it’s never a braggadocio overload from the kid.
“This project shows some confidence, but it also shows some darkness,” Matos explains. “Whether people admit that or not, there’s no escaping it. Human beings have a duality within them at all times, and we’re constantly blurring the lines between both of our sides. I think I’m just way more comfortable with it now.”
That comfort allows him to open up and flex, sometimes even on the same track. While closer “Bring Me” isn’t super-heavy on bravado, it does take some moxie to throw caution to the wind like he does on that track. When he croons, “I don’t know where I’m going, but I know I gotta bring me,” you believe it—and you’re also wishing him the best. 'The Tarmac' is now available through all major digital retailers and streaming portals...enjoy your flight!

Red Pill | Instinctive Drowning | Music Video
Red Pill says that he wanted the song and video, which shows him being ignored by guests at a party as if he was invisible, to “play on this idea that depression and substance abuse isn’t always easy to point out. Cries for help aren’t always obvious.”
It's not often the art we put out is as heavy as this. Red Pill, known for being filthy honest, has taken it to a new level and created something so intimate it hurts to watch knowing this is his life. Red Pill is more than an actor and this is more than a script - this is the baggage he carries. As a label all we can do is thank him for his honesty in art and shed a tear for one of the most heart wrenching lyrical displays we've ever heard. For all those going through the pain of addiction, loss, or anything else, we offer this merely to let you know there are so many out there who get it, who are living through it with you from a far.

Rhythm Roulette | Thes One
For this new episode of Rhythm Roulette, Mass Appeal headed to the studio with Iman Omari. Some groups in hip hop deservedly get their praise but we’ll always feel like it falls short of the deserved amount. One of those groups is People Under The Stairs. The beloved west coast duo of Thes One and Double K put out some of the smoothest music that will immediately put you in California on a sunny day regardless of your mood. Thes One not only handled production and mic duties, but he also organized their world tours, closed record deals, and co-founded an independent label Tres Records with Giant Panda’s Chikara Kurahashi. The man is a force to be reckoned with.
In this episode of Rhythm Roulette, Thes One walks out of the record shop with Orquesta Conexion Latina, Joanna Gardner’s self-titled album, and the Modern Jazz Quartet’s The Sheriff. He gets right to work with his notepad and equipment, ripping various parts of Joanna’s songs for the ultimate lounge music creation. He didn’t expect to find anything on the “shitty” record but found the drums and melody strictly from Ms. Gardner. Thes One set out to only use parts of the records for his beat (no added outside drums) and he prevailed. Watch him craft your next morning-routine theme song above.

Sa-Roc | I Come In Peace | Official Video #wisdomwednesdays
Belying it's innocuous title, Sa-Roc's delivery on "I Come in Peace" reads like a direct threat to anyone in question of her rhyme skills. This week she takes us on a lyrical joyride, weaving in between metaphysical references and clever punch lines that result in a dizzying display of vocal dexterity. Word of advice? Buckle up. The queen doesn't seem to be easing up on her reign anytime soon.
Directed By: Sol Messiah
Listen & Download “I Come In Peace” NOW!: http://bit.ly/SaRocPeaceSC
Lyrics:
I don't even know where to start, probably cuz I'm playing such a huge part in terminating rap professionals.
One aggressive stanza from Roc, have em somberly sauntering out the studio en masse-rap processional.
The lyrical Messiah from the district of Columbiana, where fast talkers prey upon the meek with that arm and hammer.
I'm giving you a peek of your future, this is sonogrammar, annihilating any opposition with this sonic ammo.
It's a gamble going up against the illest flow.
But I'm widely known for how hard my PENicillin go.
Extraterrestrial from out the inner city, they resent me cuz of how my antenna innocently glow.
My braggadocious magnum opus got em wide open.
Them visionary bars keep that 3rd eye focused.
I'm tryna spark a revolution with these fire vocals, these IG celebrities too busy being antisocial.
But I'm the people's champ, Ali every release i ever tamper with and trample any foes that get into my way.
Rumble anybody in the concrete jungle, have the entire underground chanting Sa-Roc Bomaye.
I'm illuminating every verb and noun in my vocabulary, have em starting rumors trying to ruin my day.
But I still throw up pyramids with every lyric spit, so paparazzi keeping watch in every room I lay.
Honey skinned diamond out the roughest part of the terrain.
The last standing heir apparent of the Moorish reign.
Pressure got me snapping on the drum patterns, claiming every block within earshot into the Lord's domain.
I done had family back stab me til my blood run.
And old friends that held me down when I ain't had nothing.
Now strangers tryna sell me follows and adds like mad men.
Cuz I'm on W mag covers modeling fads in fashion.
I'm a rhyme assassin, call me sharp shooter.
Got the locs Bantu knotted up just like a black Buddha, while they chasing after bread, cream, guap, Gouda.
I'm stacking silver chips and every type of gold bouillon.
Once a honor roll student of the craft now I'm giving demonstrations on the basics in the lab.
If you ain't taking notes I'm assuming you up for grabs, and I'll bust and leave your rap career in stasis on a Petrie glass.
Never been no play play, rarely catch me smiling in a picture.
I be working hard to turn these spiritual lines to scriptures.
Every one of my verses guaranteed to make you ponder like, How she wander into the game and make her nom de plume a music fixture?

DJ Shadow ft. Run The Jewels | Nobody Speak | Official Music Video
DJ Shadow has unveiled the music video for the song “Nobody Speak” featuring Run The Jewels, a standout track from his latest album ‘The Mountain Will Fall,’ out now on Mass Appeal Records. It also features appearances by DJ Shadow and Run The Jewels.
Says DJ Shadow: "We wanted to make a positive, life-affirming video that captures politicians at their election-year best. We got this instead.”
Says Run The Jewels’ Killer Mike: "It's such a dope video. It's what I really wish Trump and Hillary would just do and get it over with...And even in that fight I think Hillary would win - and that's not an endorsement."
The video was directed by Sam Pilling and produced by Pulse Films, stars Igor Tsyshkevych and Ian Bailey, and was shot in NYC, London and Ukraine.
