Paying homage to J.R. Swinga’s original 90's hit “Chocolate City” music video directed by Will Packer and Rob Hardy, also shot on the set of Florida A&M University, Cap 6 delivers a modern installment to this kick back HBCU anthem.
Florida A&M University is the environment that helped shape and support Cap 6 as a group and their music, so it is fitting that their Chocolate City music video also pays respect to the stomping grounds that has bred plenty of talent before them.
The 5 member Hip-Hop Collective released Chocolate City as a part of their Summer Jelly 2: Harvest Season mixtape back in 2015, however the long awaited visuals for the track will be released early this summer.
With its old school vibe, HBCU pride and pro-black message the video instantly connects with HBCU students and Alumni, especially those who’ve attended FAMU.

Has the crazy lunatic legend R.A. The Rugged Man gone soft? The Rugged Man was once the most feared rapper in the industry…blackballed and banned from record label offices, recording studios, and performing in the United States. Now, this hip-hop renegade is debuting his most unexpected video to date, the Father’s Day special “Bang Boogie”. Starring R.A.’s 4-month old daughter making her action debut, “Bang Boogie” finds the notoriously combative Rugged Man doing battle with his most challenging opponent yet: fatherhood. Has the wild, filthy, Crustified Dibbs finally settled down and turned his life around? Will he stop tearing apart stages and start nurturing children? Only time will tell. For now, check out “Bang Boogie” to witness the evolution of an artist who will murder you lyrically while pushing a baby stroller.

Life is a cruel joke...were you waiting for a punch line?
MindsOne connects with Belgium's DJ Iron on their newest endeavor, "Phaseology", and aim to examine the bigger picture. Why are we here? Where do we go in the end? Is that an SP1200? Damn right. Is life too complex to condense into 40 minutes? Challenge accepted.
First, don't look at life as the sum of its events. Think about it as a series of phases. Next, combine MindsOne's handcrafted lyrical artistry with DJ Iron's jazz infused boom-bap. Combine, two parts cynicism, one part mysticism, and add water. Then, sprinkle in a guest appearance by the sage John Robinson, throw in a heavy dose of turntablism from DJ Iron and MindsOne's DJ Noumenon and Slim Deluxe, and the theory is complete.
"Phaseology" is the follow-up to MindsOne's 2014 critically acclaimed release, "Pillars", produced by Kev Brown. Journey along as Tronic and KON Sci explore the phases of life and create scenes, both real and imagined, to give listeners a bird's-eye view. Relive childish fantasies and revisit irrational fears. Go to work and act like an adult. Ponder your existence and reflect on your life. Spoiler: It's all gonna end. But not today.
We're born alone, we die alone, etc. Talk to God if it's too complex.

Mello Music Group, 2016
North American Debut @ Stereogum on June 9, 2016
European Debut @ The 405 on June 9, 2016
About the Album:
Oddisee is an everyman with extraordinary talent. Both a rapper chronicling the perils and joys of ordinary existence, and a virtuosic producer attuned to the vibrations of how life actually sounds. But don't mistake the Odd Tape for the noise of birds chirping, idle chatter, or car alarms; it's that internal soul-jazz reverberating at the back of your brain.
For the last decade, the Mello Music Group artist has alternated between instrumental albums, full-length rap records, and his role as one-third of Diamond District. The Odd Tape is technically the former-there are no vocals-but if you call this an instrumental album, you might as well say the same about Bitches Brew.
After a decade making music, the Prince Georges, Md.-raised and Brooklyn-based has transcended influences, comparisons and genre. The Odd Tape showcases the range of a composer bending hip-hop, soul, and jazz into singular form, tapping into that same emotional Fort Knox that animates all wordless choruses.
The Odd Tape revolves around the rhythms of the artist's daily life. It starts in the morning with "Alarmed," that sounds like if Shuggie Otis did a psychedelic eye-opening cover of Nas' "Shootouts." It rolls through "Right Side of the Bed," with its glitter-gold sax lines, loose drums, and sunshine-slanting-through-the-blinds keyboards. Oddisee went from sampling to creating the eternal sounds of his original inspirations. You can hear older gods like Roy Ayers, Bob James, and Fela, but mostly you hear Oddisee continue to come into his own.
As Pitchfork described his previous album, 2015's The Good Fight: "the music feels distinctly international and unhindered, far removed from the straight-ahead boom-bap he used to make. He's always created on his own terms, but [this] feels like a hearty "fuck you" to prevailing groupthink and the industry's creative limitations."
But this record marks another ascension. It glides, meditates, and simmers from "Alarmed" to "Still Sleeping." The soundtrack to his coffee in the morning, a trip to the corner store for fresh groceries, producing in the afternoon, cruising his bike through the city for inspiration, late afternoon song writing, stepping out into the evening with friends, hookah on the rooftop in Brooklyn, and settling into the dream world again. This is the Odd Tape, life as you've never heard it before.
"Jump Shots" is a song that articulates in depth the idea made famous by Biggie Smalls, "either your slingin' crack rock or you got a wicked jump shot." Over an infectious head-nodder from Buckwild, assisted by a flawless cuts from Statik Selektah, REKS describes the limited options available to ghetto youth and the parallels between b-ball and hip hop. A die-hard Boston Celtics fan, REKS states, "I actually grew up idolizing the Bad Boys Isiah Thomas on the ball court. His grittiness and fearlessness was admirable."
"Jump Shots" comes just in time as The NBA Finals are now in full swing. REKS won't root for any team other than his beloved Celtics these days, but he is enjoying the shootout between Steph Curry and Lebron James. "Jump Shots" is the fourth release from 'The Greatest X'.

Album notes:
The 4th installment in Epidemic's catalog "4 Dimensions on a Paper" takes the listener on a journey through an array of sonic landscapes and emotions, much like seeing different seasons pass through the year. It was constructed in four sections each containing four songs with each section representing one of the four seasons. Beginning with an upbeat playful feel-good sound representing the summer, it slowly descends into heavier and deeper themes and more melancholic sounds.
It eventually ends on a hopeful positive note much like the cycle of seasons is renewed during spring. The album features production by numerous beat makers from all over the world. The Loop.Holes (a production team from Norway) handled more than half of the beats on the project however, producing 11 of the 18 tracks. Other production includes Boora, SicknessMP, Jewbei, Planet Ragtime, Figub Brazlevic and Da Eighth. Featured artists include Melanin 9 and Chad Bazel. This album, with its minimalist approach to guest appearances and lengthy track list, aims to provide hardcore Hip-hop fans with a concentrated and substantial listen.
