BreakWithMagic presets workshop with B-Boy Evol (Brickheadz Crew)
Bboy Evol will be teaching a breakin workshop this Saturday at ABC DANCE ACADEMY in Chicago . This is a fifth workshop out of 12 week "prepare for the battle" summer workshop series.
For those who don’t know, it’s “Evol” like “Knievel.” But you’d be forgiven for thinking that the name was short for “evolution.” After all, this is the dude who went from being an unschooled kid to a self-taught breaking force, and whose style has helped b-boy culture develop in his native Chicago and beyond. “It was October 1998, the beginning of 8th grade,” Evol says, remembering the first time he tried to throw down moves. “I saw some friends trying to break and I was like, ‘I’m down.’ But I didn’t know what was what and neither did they. We taught ourselves for the first year: no videos, no YouTube, no teachers. Pure love for the movement kept me going.”
He's consistently active in bboy battles and performances motivated by his pure love for the breaking culture (IBE 2004 Holland,City vs City Champ 2010, Red Bull BC One NA Qualifier Chicago 2012,2013,2014, Denver 2015)
Class will consist of:
- the art of dynamic movement

Shon Roka (pronounced Shaun Roca) the DJ also known as Shaun Ortega was born on the west-side of Chicago. He started gaining fame as a bboy in 1991 and later became a member of a well known crew called the BRICKHEADZ. He would perform for such artist and events such as The Roots, KRS One, Immortal Technique, Dougie Fresh, Common, Rhymefest, Cypress Hill, Pharoah Monch, Nas, Diddy, Mariah Carey, Taste of Chicago, Lollapolooza, Looptopia, B96 Summer Bash just to name a few. The BRICKHEADZ also won many breakin' competition nationally and internationally. While Shon Roka was being active as a bboy he was working on his craft of being a DJ.
DJing for w/ Nike, Jordan, Under Armour, Adidas, Vans, Uprise (Chicago) Skateshop for numerous in-stores, sporting events, galleries and corporate outings. Also Shon Roka is a resident DJ post Covid in Chicago at McGee's, Tantrum, Imbibe and Harbee's. While being a DJ, he has been teaching music production and the Art of Skateboarding through Maggie Daley's After School Matters. Also known as Gallery 37.
