How to Improve Your Echo Out Transitions
The "echo out" transition is a great way to improve the flow of a mix, and DJ Jazzy Jeff is one of its masters. While we can't all play like Jeff, we can learn a lot from his techniques and apply them to our sets. During that period Chris has applied his touch to numerous BBE mixtapes and remixes, collaborating with BBE artists DJ Spinna and YesKing among many others.
The gloriously eclectic ‘All Night’ rounds up the best of his BBE remixes, placing them alongside productions and remixes for a stellar catalogue of guest vocalists and labels.
Two Grammy award winners feature, Bilal and Algebra Blessett, Bilal having previously collaborated with heavyweights J-Dilla, Dr. Dre and Rob-ert Glasper, while Atlanta-native Blessett has impressed as one of the most innovative performers in R&B. Also on hand are DC hip-hop man of the moment Oddisee, Tokyo Dawn-signing Pugs Atomz, Wah Wah 45s’ Bev Lee Harling, Mozambiquan hip-hop renaissance men Simba & Milton Gulli, long time collaborator and Tru-Thoughts vocalist Lizzy Parks and the mighty horns of the Renegade Brass Band.
Of the 14 tracks featured, nine are exclusive to this compilation or previ-ously unreleased. Notably, this album is the first to showcase material from Maylight, a BBC New Music Award winning seven-piece fusing soul, jazz and electronics, Chris having produced the band’s debut LP Al-mighty (due for release on BBE later in 2015).

Out of all the concerts he attended, he specifically recalls attending a Marvin Gaye concert that inspired his performance style. From a young age, Frank Nitt was quick to absorb the rich musical history of his native Detroit, forming the rap duo Frank N’ Dank in his teens. The group eventually landed worldwide attention & acclaim for their contributions to Dilla’s debut album Welcome 2 Detroit in 2001 and soon after signed to MCA Records.
Poised to release their debut full length 48 Hours (entirely produced by Dilla) the album ended up shelved, seemingly indefinitely, due to label politics. It wasn’t until 2013 that the album finally saw a proper official release, garnering critical praise for its irreverent, light-hearted rhymes and unconventional production.
After years as a group, Nitt parted ways with Dank to pursue a career as a solo emcee, eventually connecting with prolific LA beatsmith Madlib to release Nittyville, an installment of Madlib’s acclaimed Medicine Show series.
Most recently, Nitt released Sunset Blvd., a collaborative full-length with Illa J (younger brother to the late J Dilla) over unreleased Dilla productions and featuring hip hop heavyweights Common, Talib Kweli and members of De La Soul and the Pharcyde.
With Frankie Rothstein, his first album on Fat Beats Records which features production from the likes of J Rocc, J Dilla and DJ Rhettmatic, L.A. based, Detroit-bred MC Frank Nitt brings his distinguished, decades-long career full-circle, packing his inimitable style and years of industry-hardened grit in with a newfound maturity and growth.

We teamed up with Wacom, Kontraband Studios and illustrator/design young-gun Stay Bold to create a unique t-shirt for Analogue/Digital Creative Conference in Brisbane. Filmed at Stay Bold’s studio on the Sunshine Coast and Kontraband Studios in Toowoomba, we watch the design process unfold from initial concepts on paper with Ironlak Strikers Tri-grip Twin Makers; through to conveniently creating finished art with the Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 and final production via the screen-printing finesse of the good crew at Kontraband Studios.

Street League Pro Open: Barcelona Finals | Winner Nyjah Huston
Nyjah Huston won the Barcelona Pro Open today with Paul Rodriguez in second and Evan Smith in third. Nyjah had a couple bails during the finals and it didn’t look like he’d take the top spot, but then he unleashed his 270 kickflip lip and shook the arena. Paul could’ve won with his last chance, he needed a 8.4 and he went for a nollie heelflip crooked grind to nollie heelflip out, but couldn’t put it down. Once again, the teenager with ice water in his veins takes home another SLS trophy, this time from Barcelona, Spain. It’s definitely worth noting Evan Smith’s crowd-favorite performance all day, flying around the course hucking huge kickflip stalefishes, alley-oop 540s, and transfers that got the crowd, and the other pros in the audience, frothing. We’re so stoked he’ll be a part of Street League this year.
Nyjah’s win earned him a Golden Ticket straight into the Super Crown Championship in October. It also put him at the top of the championship points leaderboard, after placing second earlier this year at the Tampa Pro contest. And welcome Evan Smith and Cody McEntire to the League! Today the first day of the SLS Nike SB Pro Open: Barcelona kicked off beachfront at the new Skate Agora plaza in Badalona. Evan Smith qualified first, so he and the rest of the top 8 go up against the SLS pros tomorrow where two of today’s riders will be automatically promoted to the tour. The skater who finishes tomorrow on top will receive a golden ticket straight to the championship — The Street League Super Crown in Chicago.

Shon Roka (pronounced Shaun Roca) the DJ also known as Shaun Ortega was born on the west-side of Chicago. He started gaining fame as a bboy in 1991 and later became a member of a well known crew called the BRICKHEADZ. He would perform for such artist and events such as The Roots, KRS One, Immortal Technique, Dougie Fresh, Common, Rhymefest, Cypress Hill, Pharoah Monch, Nas, Diddy, Mariah Carey, Taste of Chicago, Lollapolooza, Looptopia, B96 Summer Bash just to name a few. The BRICKHEADZ also won many breakin' competition nationally and internationally. While Shon Roka was being active as a bboy he was working on his craft of being a DJ.
DJing for w/ Nike, Jordan, Under Armour, Adidas, Vans, Uprise (Chicago) Skateshop for numerous in-stores, sporting events, galleries and corporate outings. Also Shon Roka is a resident DJ post Covid in Chicago at McGee's, Tantrum, Imbibe and Harbee's. While being a DJ, he has been teaching music production and the Art of Skateboarding through Maggie Daley's After School Matters. Also known as Gallery 37.

Mole de Mayo is an annual festival held in Pilsen celebrating the incredible culinary dish from Mexico, MOLE!!
