FKA twigs BBC1 Interview

FKA twigs chats to Zane Lowe and performs at Maida Vale

FKA twigs musical style is hard-nosed, sharply focused, and exhaustingly different. But her disarmingly soft voice cuts through the metallic clutter and has roped in admirers across the world. Sitting down with Zane Lowe for a BBC1 interview alongside her band this afternoon, she sounds like a sprite from another realm, sheepishly feeling her way around the cold air and bright lights of a broadcast studio. Is she happy? Yes. Is she secure? Kind of. Does she feel safe? I’m in a safe place. She opens up about choosing music as her life’s work, before speaking poignantly on her passion for dance: The fact that in vogue and in crump, you have to know the roots: where does that move come from? what does it mean? Essentially, that’s how hip-hop started. She squeezes in time to preview three tunes from LP1, her full length due August 12th. We can’t wait to move along to it tonight at her sold-out Webster Hall headliner.
