Clash DJ Mix | Osunlade
By:Tristan Parker/Clash Magazine
The funkiest history lesson you ever did hear...
The Funk. Everybody wants it, some people just don’t have it – and never will – and others are very much endowed with it. Soulful house hero Osunlade is undoubtedly one of the latter, today giving you the funkiest history lesson you ever did hear.
Born in the US but now firmly rooted on the paradisiacal Grecian island of Santorini, the producer has long been an inspiring name within the deeper side of house music, but his passion for more organic sounds (flexed beautifully on 2009’s ‘Rebirth’) has always given him a fascinating edge over most.
It’s this propensity that shaped Osunlade’s Clash mix, a selection of raw, rare funk and soul cuts encountered during his formative years. The grooves are heavy, undeniable and golden, with several of the chosen tracks featured on the crucial 2010 compilation ‘California Funk’, which unearthed various undiscovered funky wonders from the late ’60s.
Osunlade explains more about his mix: “This is a soul funk recollection of the music from the inner regions of the States from the mid-sixties to the late-seventies. It’s the type of music I grew up listening to, so I wanted to explore it, as most people only know of the mainstream soul music that was on major labels.”
