The J Dilla Tribute Show Announcement!

Audibly Nutritious, Sweet Soul Music and Make Believe Recordings Present: The J Dilla Tribute Show!!! Join us at House Of Loom for our second annual J Dilla Tribute Show! We've brought back some of our close friends to pay respects to one of the best Hip Hop producers we've heard in our lifetime. We do this by having the performers reinterpret their original songs over Dilla's classic beats.

Starting at 8 P.M. we will be showing a series of short documentaries from his friends and family discussing Dilla's work and his legacy through the years. Also, The good folks at Pedits Pastry will be providing a variety of Donuts to satisfy your senses while viewing.

All profits received at the door will go to The J Dilla Foundation which was created by Dilla's Mother, Maureen Yancey to help fund inner-city music programs, and provide scholarships to students attending schools that have progressive music curricula. J Dilla Bio:

James DeWitt Yancey aka J. Dilla was a Hip Hop producer from Detroit, Michigan who studied under the great Amp Fiddler (Parliament Funkadelic) and went on to become one of hip hop's biggest influences producing tracks with Slum Village, A Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes, D' Angelo, Common, De La Soul, Erykah Badu, Madlib, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Bilal, and many more.

In 2003, Dilla was diagnosed with TTP which led to Lupus, a condition wherein the body's immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissue. In 2006, Dilla spent his final months in the hospital where he produced his 3rd solo album entitled "Donuts" which was released on February 7th, 2006 before passing away 3 days later at the age of 32. Donuts became a sonic landmark in the hip hop community. Pitchfork.com recently gave the reissue of the album a perfect rating of 10/10, saying "It's a widely praised favorite for so many people, and yet there's something about Donuts that feels like such an intensely personal statement. Even attempting to engage with it objectively, setting aside the direct experience of the man who made it, doesn't entirely break through its mystique".
